Ozone Therapy
Ozone therapy is a revolutionary medical modality that uses oxygen internally and externally to help with a variety of conditions. It kills bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spirochetes and has also been shown to have some cancer fighting and kidney protective properties. It reduces inflammation, therefore proving useful in reducing pain and itchiness as well.
Ozone is a colorless gas made up of 3 atoms of oxygen. In its gaseous state, its most common uses in veterinary medicine consist of rectal enemas to clear gut biofilm and prepare the gastrointestinal tract for microbiome restorative therapy (fecal transplants), ear insufflation for severe chronic ear infections, and bladder insufflation for bladder tumors and chronic and/or drug-resistant urinary tract infections.
Substances such as water, saline, and oils can be ozonated to allow ozone to be administered in other ways. We often use ozonated saline subcutaneously or even intravenously for a more potent effect. Oils may be ozonated for topical use for wounds and skin masses.
We are now offering a variety of ozone therapies here at Holistic Veterinary Care. We invite you to set up an appointment with one of our doctors to see if ozone therapy could benefit your pet!
