Prepare before the puppy’s arrival. Go to a local pet store that you trust and make sure to get good food, plenty of treats and toys to keep your puppy occupied. Many stores will have checklists of things to get when bringing a new puppy home.

Prep your house. Puppies will generally need training early and often as they adjust to your new home. Don’t leave anything dangerous or invaluable to you out for the puppy to get into.

Consider socialization early and often. As soon as your puppy is vaccinated, start bringing your puppy around lots of people and other (friendly) dogs to let him get used to and enjoy the company of others. Establish a relationship with a veterinarian as soon as you can so you have quality health care ensured for any checkups you will need down the road. Many online resources are available to lead you in the direction of a good vet.
